Ede poly council commutes 27 students expulsion to suspension

 The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has commuted the  expulsion of 27 students of the institution to a session suspension. 

The council also pardon four students who were earlier suspended by the school management, with a warning not to involved themselves in any future violent protests. Similarly, the council lifted the ban earlier placed on student unionism in the school, adding that the school management has been directed to constituteFaculty representatives, who will see to the affair of the union till the end of the current semester. The decisions were made after the recommendation of a committee set up to look into the circumstances surrounding the expulsion and suspension of the students was ratified by the council.The Punch had earlier reported that the Polytechnic management announced the expulsion and suspension of the students following their alleged role in a protest that occured on campus on May 9, during which property were vandalised.Announcing the resolution of the council during a press briefing on Friday in Ede, the chairman of the council, Professor Taiwo Olaiya, said all students of the institution were to pay N10,000 damages to serve as deterrent. “The council ratified the recommendation of the committee and the resolution is that the expulsion of the 27 students have been converted into suspension for the 2023/2024 academic session.“For those who were earlier suspended, they have been fully pardoned with a warning not to involve themselves in such act again. “Also, the council have lifted the ban placed on  student union activities in the institution following the protest. The Polytechnic management has been directed to constitute a body of the Faculty representatives that would hold forth, the union position between now and the end of the semester.”“Finally, all students of the institution are to pay N10,000 each as damages so serve as a deterrent against such ugly incident in the future and also put the property – private and public vandalised back in place.”Osun Spring
