Ekiti gov orders construction of toilets at NYSC camp

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has directed that toilet facilities be built immediately at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Ise-Emure.

According to a statement on the state’s X .com handle, the Commissioner for Youth Development, who is also the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Council in the State, Mr Adesola Adedayo, made the announcement after he conducted an on-the-spot- assessment of the situation immediately after he was informed of the collapse of a toilet facility at the camp which caused minor injuries to two female corps members on Friday.

Adedayo, during his remarks, reminded the corps members of the government’s commitment to ensuring their well-being and security throughout their service year.

He also pledged that the Ekiti State Government will continue to support the NYSC scheme through the provision and upkeep of facilities.

Adedayo revealed that the injured corps members are now stable after receiving essential medical care, and they have been placed under observation at the hospital.

Expressing empathy for the affected Corps members, Adedayo said that they are, however, stable and placed under observation at Federal Teaching Hospital Ido, Ido Ekiti, adding that the situation is under control.

He said, “I have gone round the camp to assess the situation of the Orientation camp and the two Corps members are doing fine now, they are stable, they are fine.

“The consultant Doctor at the NYSC camp had attended to them. They have also been taken to FETHI in Ido Ekiti for further examination.

“The Doctor confirmed that they were fine and actually did not want to send them to the Teaching Hospital, but we deemed it necessary for observation and assurance that there wouldn’t be other complications.

“Our Governor has been supporting NYSC in Ekiti State. We have been supporting them every time they have orientation camp, and we will continue to support them.

“No stone would be left unturned to forestall similar occurrences in future, but I must assure you that the Corps members are safe, the orientation camp is calm, and the two affected female Corps members are also safe”.
