A celebration of twins and multiple births tagged TwinFest Africana is set for Lagos in August 2024, a statement on Wednesday said.
The managing partner of a tourism and culture promotion outfit, Tri-Sight Nigeria Limited, Pekun Adeyanju, noted that the event was being organised in partnership with the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism.
Adeyanju, while speaking to newsmen in Lagos over the weekend, said the objectives of the event were to celebrate the victory twins and multiple births have won over the years, “from the days of being regarded as evil children to becoming the adorable source of joy in different communities.”
The managing partner noted that the event will also showcase Nigeria as the epicentre of twinning in the world, especially with statistics showing Nigeria as one of the countries with the highest rate of twinning in the world.
Speaking further, Adeyanju said participants in the two-day festival were expected to come from different parts of the African continent, adding that apart from celebrating twin and multiple births, the event would also serve as a platform to showcase the rich culture, fashion, cuisine, music and oral literature of the country and the African continent in general.
Highlights of the event include cultural shows, a twins’ talent hunt, a twins quiz competition for different age grades and a health talk.
Others are twins’ dancing competitions, lucky dip, twin-celebrity success story sharing, photo galleries and storytelling on twin birth evolution and other engaging activities.
As cultural activities continue to gain momentum in the country, the twin festival is expected to be a prelude to the grand Yoruba Week celebration, slated for September 2024.
Earlier in June, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, noted that plans were being concluded to unveil the Yoruba Week.
