A devastating attack on a community in Sokoto State, Nigeria, has left at least six people dead and over 100 others abducted.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, with suspected gunmen storming the area at 1:30 am, armed with sophisticated firearms.
According to the police, six dead bodies have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate other missing persons.
The Divisional Police Officer led a team of policemen to the scene to assess the situation and restore normalcy.
The community, located in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, had previously been peaceful before the surprise attack.
In a separate incident, troops of Operation Whirl Punch continued their crackdown on bandits in Kaduna State, killing three bandits on the Gonna Rogo-Eka axis of Kajuru Local Government Area.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, troops also killed 36 bandits, including notorious leader Buhari Alhaji Halidu, also known as “Buharin Yadi,” on June 14.
The news of the bandit leader’s death sparked jubilation among residents of Kaduna-Katsina border communities.
In the latest raid, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, and 81 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition after a fierce battle with the bandits.
Governor Uba Sani commended the security forces for their efforts to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration for citizens and thanked them for their dedication to keeping the state safe.
