A devastating road crash occurred on Thursday at 20:00 hours on the Olooru new Jebba road in Kanbi village, Kwara State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that the accident resulted in the loss of 19 lives.
According to the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who briefed the press in Abuja on Friday, the crash involved two vehicles: a blue Iveco trailer with no registration and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LSD363YE.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
The crash involved 25 people, including 13 male adults, five female adults, two female children, and five male children.
Tragically, 19 people lost their lives, comprising 11 male adults, three female adults, three male children, and two female children.
Five people were injured, including three male adults and two female adults, and were rescued to Orisun Ayo hospital.
One of the deceased was deposited at the hospital’s morgue, while the remaining 18 dead bodies were claimed by the families of the victims.
The FRSC has pledged to investigate the incident further to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
