The Military High Command has promised to take strong action against the proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) following the killing of five soldiers at a checkpoint in Aba, Abia State, on Wednesday.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the military will bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat. The troops deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area were attacked and killed by terrorists from IPOB/ESN.
The terrorists, who were in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and other vehicles, launched a surprise attack on the checkpoint. The attack resulted in the loss of five lives of armed forces personnel.
The military is mourning the loss of the troops and is investigating the incident. The High Command has reiterated that winning the war without the support of the people is impossible, and that IPOB capitalized on this to perpetrate attacks on the troops.
The situation is “no exemption” and requires a strong response from the military. The High Command has vowed to be fierce in its response and bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.
