Ogun State Government Initiates Demolition of Shanties, Unauthorized Structures

The Ogun State Government has commenced the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures erected under bridges and in public spaces across the state.

Overseeing the operation, Farouk Akintunde, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, highlighted that the demolition followed the expiration of notices issued to the traders. He stressed that these structures had become hotspots for criminal activities, contributing to heightened insecurity in the areas.

Akintunde explained, “Notices were issued to them since last year, but they failed to comply. With the notices now expired, we have begun the demolition of all makeshift, shanties, and unauthorized structures. These shanties have turned into hiding spots for criminal elements, and the government cannot tolerate such behavior. This is an ongoing effort.”

The demolition operations have reportedly taken place in Panseke, Kuto, and Nwarudeen areas of Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
