Osun: Police arrest bank manager for N650.8m fraud

The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Adeniyi Sunday, a manager at one of the First Bank branches in Osogbo, for alleged serial fraud and deception.

According to a statement released on Tuesday in Osogbo by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, Adeniyi Sunday, who resides at Army Barracks Area, Kelebe, Iragbiji road, Osogbo, is accused of engaging in fraudulent activities amounting to N650.8 million.

The statement, signed by the Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, revealed that Adeniyi Sunday, aged 47, was apprehended for offenses including fraud, obtaining money under false pretense, conversion, and stealing. He allegedly orchestrated these crimes through an illegal product known as “Proof of Funds,” which victimized thirty-five individuals.

Opalola further noted that Adeniyi Sunday has been suspended by First Bank Nigeria Plc, his former employer, pending further investigation into the matter. The police assured that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect, along with any accomplices, will be prosecuted accordingly.

CP Mohammed Umar Abba emphasized the commitment of the Osun State Police Command to eliminate criminal activities from the state, warning that Osun will not harbor criminals. Residents were urged to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
