ASUP commends Uzodimma over merging of Imo poly campuses

Imo State Polytechnic chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has applauded the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma for merging the three campuses of the institution to domicile at Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area.

The commendation came following the law enacted by the Imo State House of Assembly merging the Ehime Mbano and Orlu campuses of the polytechnic with Omuma as its headquarters.

Briefing journalists, the Imo Poly ASUP Chairman, Dr. Ugo Onyewuchi, said that the earlier multi-campus system did not only affect students’ enrollment but reduced its revenue drive.

Onyewuchi further said that Uzodimma’s approval for a single campus was timely, adding that such a directive was capable of boosting the image of the school.

He said, “Uzodmma’s approval of a single campus is timely. This is because the directive is capable of boosting the image of the school.”

The ASUP leader, however, appealed to Uzodimma to grant financial implementation of the 2023 promotion, provide more officers, include Imo State Polytechnic workers in the contributory pension scheme, and urgent payment of gratuity.

He therefore, charged the state government to pay March, April 2018, and February 2020 salaries respectively, implement the governor’s approval for the payment of increased salary scale, and construct the ASUP secretariat building, forfeited to the University of Science and Environmental Studies, Umuagwo – the old site of the polytechnic – in the course of the relocation to Omuma.

Ontewuchi added, “Imo state government should kindly donate vehicles to the union and constitute a governing council for the polytechnic for optimal service delivery.”
