LASEPA Temporarily Shuts Down Churches and Hotels in Lagos over Noise Pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has taken measures to address noise pollution by temporarily closing down several establishments, including churches, hotels, markets, and shopping complexes, from March 23 to April 26. During this period, a total of five churches and 19 hotels were shut down due to noise pollution and other environmental violations.

Among the churches that were temporarily sealed are St Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lord’s Catholic Church, Christ Rock of Fire Ministry, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, and an unnamed Catholic Church. Additionally, several hotels, including School2bar, Blue Seasons Hotel and Suites, Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, Monero Hotel and Suites, and Lekki Hotel and Suites, were affected by the closures.

According to a statement shared by the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Friday, various establishments in areas such as Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu were sealed due to noise pollution. The enforcement operation aimed to comprehensively address environmental breaches.

The statement emphasized the importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards and stressed the need for compliance with regulations to mitigate noise pollution and other environmental risks. The affected establishments have been temporarily closed to ensure compliance and uphold environmental regulations.
