Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the planting of three million trees across the 44 local government areas of the state in collaboration with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).
In a ceremonial event on Sunday, the governor planted a tree along the State Road by the Government House.
He said trees would be planted along the major roads across the metropolitan local government areas of the state, urging the residents to start planting trees in their houses, roads as well as all the other places.
“Three million seedlings will be distributed across all the 44 local government areas of the state. The largest share of about 1.2 million will be distributed and planted across major streets in the metropolitan areas.
“The essence is to encourage people to come out and participate in the tree planting exercise across the State,” the governor said.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator, Dr Dahir Muhammad Hashim said the project was to address the climate change problem, which has exposed the state to excessive heat recently.
