The Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have issued a warning regarding the proliferation of fake websites targeting candidates applying for the upcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be conducted nationwide.
At a joint press conference held at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, highlighted the emergence of several fraudulent websites designed to deceive candidates into providing personal details such as registration numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers.
Adejobi emphasized, “These fake sites are designed to deceive innocent candidates into providing personal details such as registration numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers. These details are then exploited for malicious purposes.”
Both the NPF and JAMB condemned the actions of these perpetrators and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the interests of candidates and preserving the integrity of the examination process. They urged parents, guardians, and all stakeholders to ensure candidates print their UTME Notification Slips only from JAMB’s official website.
Candidates were advised to print their slips before Friday, April 19, 2024, to access crucial examination details. Any website other than www.jamb.gov.ng offering UTME slip printing services was deemed fraudulent. Candidates were also cautioned against accessing sites offering purported ‘live’ questions and answers, as such materials are prohibited.
In addition, JAMB announced its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre to combat online scams effectively. The Inspector General of Police ordered the NPF-NCCC to pursue and prosecute scammers and fraudsters engaged in cyber-related crimes, ensuring they face legal consequences.
JAMB had previously instructed all candidates registered for the UTME to print their examination notification slips, which are now available for printing.
