Majority Leader assures Tinubu of N’Assembly’s support on economy

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Majority Leader of the Senate representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic strategies aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s economy.

In his Eid el-Fitri goodwill message to Muslims, Bamidele lauded the sustained implementation of pro-people macro-economic policies, which has led to increased stability in the economic and fiscal spheres. He highlighted the significant improvement in the value of the naira, with a gain of approximately 42 percent within two months, from ₦1,900/$ in February 2024 to ₦1,117.5/$ as of Wednesday.

Bamidele also praised Tinubu’s administration for addressing the $7 billion valid foreign exchange backlog and highlighted the Federal Government’s repayment of ₦4.83 trillion out of ₦30 trillion obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria through ways and means.

He noted the positive trend in foreign direct investments and expressed optimism that the consumer price index, reflecting inflation, would decrease significantly by mid-year as efforts toward economic and fiscal stability continue.

Furthermore, Bamidele emphasized the National Assembly’s commitment to providing support to key public institutions to fulfill their mandates effectively, in line with the Constitution of Nigeria. He urged adherence to the core principles of Eid-el-Fitr, discouraging actions that undermine government policies, exploit resources, or sow discord for personal gain.

In closing, Bamidele extended greetings to the Muslim community and urged compassion toward the less privileged while emphasizing the importance of upholding human dignity.
