Kano police command investigates beheading of minor by Almajiri

The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic incident involving the alleged beheading of a minor, Mohammed Saidu, by an Almajiri at Kanwa village, Madobi Local Government Area.

According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Usaini Gumel, the victim, 6-year-old Saidu, was reportedly killed by a 16-year-old Almajiri named Abdullahi, believed to be from Zamfara.

Gumel explained that Abdullahi was spotted at Kanwa village by a concerned individual carrying a blood-stained knife suspected to be human blood. Subsequently, a search led to the discovery of Saidu’s headless body in a nearby primary school.

Upon apprehension, the suspect was taken to the village head’s house to shield him from an enraged mob. However, the mob overwhelmed the village head, attacked the suspect, and inflicted severe injuries on him.

When the police arrived, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting to disposing of the victim’s head in a pit toilet adjacent to the primary school. Despite efforts to save him, the suspect succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Kwankwaso Cottage Hospital.

The victim’s remains were recovered, examined at the hospital, and later released to his family for burial, as confirmed by Commissioner Gumel.
