The Sokoto State Government has strongly criticized former governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for claiming they were cheated out of victory in the 2023 governorship election.
In a statement on Wednesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Sambo Danchadi, dismissed the PDP’s assertion that it had actually won the election as delusional.
Tambuwal recently alleged that the PDP was not defeated in the 2023 governorship election but rather had its victory stolen.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) refuted these claims, labeling them absurd and offensive to the thousands of Sokoto citizens who voted overwhelmingly for the ruling party and its governorship candidate, now Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Danchadi emphasized that the PDP’s defeat stemmed from its poor performance while in power. He criticized Tambuwal’s assertion as disrespectful to the sanctity of the election process.
According to Danchadi, the PDP only secured the majority of votes in five out of the 23 local government areas in the state.
He highlighted that the APC’s victory in the election was justified by its efforts to address key issues, particularly in security. Danchadi stated that the state was now more secure, and the removal of the PDP from the Sokoto Government House was widely celebrated by the populace.
As the administration approaches its one-year mark, Danchadi pledged that it would soon initiate the inauguration of projects that would surpass the achievements of the PDP during its eight-year tenure.
