Abducted Rivers gov candidate regains freedom

The Rivers State governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election, Sobomabo Jackrich, who was abducted from his residence in the Usokun community in the Degema Local Government Area of the state, has been freed. Gunmen raided his home in the early hours of Monday, also killing two of his aides and looting his property.

An aide, speaking anonymously, confirmed Jackrich’s release on Tuesday evening, noting that some of his belongings were stolen during the abduction. Following his release, he was taken to the 6 Division, Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt, also known as Bori Camp.

Despite earlier denials of involvement from the military, Jackrich’s aide asserted that he was indeed taken to Bori Camp after his release. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Orange-Koko, confirmed the situation, stating that a sister security agency arrested Jackrich.

However, the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division, Army Public Relations, Lt Col. Jonah Danjuma, maintained his position of being unaware of the incident when contacted again on Wednesday. Despite calls from Jackrich’s family and his party for his immediate release, Danjuma reiterated his lack of knowledge regarding the situation.
