Several students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, are rallying for support to raise the ransom demanded for their friend and fellow student, Miss Francisca Chioma, who was reportedly abducted while en route to a burial ceremony.
Chioma, a student in the Science Education Department, has been missing since Friday, April 5, after setting out from Awka to attend the funeral in a village within Anambra State. Despite efforts to reach her via phone, she remains unreachable, sparking concern among her peers, friends, and family.
The university’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and informed that relevant security agencies have been notified. He disclosed that the kidnappers have contacted Chioma’s family, although it’s unclear whether they’ve demanded a ransom.
Social media reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N10 million, later negotiated down to N2 million, with a deadline set for today (Tuesday) for payment. Struggling to meet the ransom, Chioma’s friends and schoolmates have launched a public appeal for donations to secure her release.
An emotional post shared on social media by one Collins C. recounts the ordeal and pleads for assistance in raising the ransom. The plea urges prayers for Chioma’s safety and encourages contributions, no matter how small, towards the ransom.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, acknowledged the incident and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.
