Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is contemplating legal action against lawyer Hassan Oladotun for allegedly disseminating a report aimed at disqualifying him from the state’s gubernatorial primary election. Oladotun initially petitioned the Nigeria Police Force on June 2, 2023, urging an investigation into the governor’s academic credentials.
Subsequently, he obtained a copy of the investigation report through a Freedom of Information request. However, the police, in a statement by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, refuted the authenticity of the report.
In response to the police’s denial, Oladotun petitioned the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Police Service Commission, affirming the report’s legitimacy. He called for their intervention to safeguard the integrity of the investigation report.
In a new development, Governor Aiyedatiwa, represented by his lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), asserted the authenticity of his West African School Certificate Examination results.
Adegboruwa, in a letter dated April 8, 2024, addressed to Oladotun, refuted the allegations against the governor, providing details of Aiyedatiwa’s examination results. The letter demanded a public apology from Oladotun to be published in three newspapers.
Furthermore, Adegboruwa outlined additional demands, including the withdrawal of all false publications, letters to relevant authorities, and compensation for defamation. Adegboruwa warned that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would result in legal action against Oladotun.
