Jigawa gov suspends commissioner over alleged misuse of ramadan feeding funds

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has promptly suspended Commissioner for Commerce, Aminu Kanta, amid allegations of misusing funds earmarked for Ramadan feeding. The suspension, effective immediately, stems from accusations of financial misconduct related to the Ramadan Iftar feeding program in Babura Local Government Area. Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, conveyed this decision in a statement issued on Friday in Dutse, the state capital. Pending the outcome of an investigative committee appointed by the governor to probe the allegations, the suspended commissioner will remain on suspension.

The statement underscored Governor Namadi’s commitment to prudent financial management and combating the misuse of public funds. Earlier, the State Executive Council had approved the release of N2.8 billion for the Ramadan Iftar feeding program across all 27 local government areas. Six hundred designated feeding centers, with a minimum of two locations per political ward, were established, along with centers within higher institutions statewide. Each center is tasked with providing daily meals for a minimum of 300 people throughout the Ramadan period.
