Ali Ciroma, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, passed away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by a family member, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, who is also the Secretary of the Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. Ciroma served as NLC president from 1984 to 1988 during Ibrahim Babagida’s military regime.
He was known for his involvement in various unionist activities, including calling for the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, amid the party’s crisis. The burial ceremony for Ciroma will take place tomorrow at 4pm at his residence in Maiduguri.
