President Bola Tinubu-led government, through the Ministry of Education, on Tuesday inaugurated a committee to combat the fake certificate menace.
“Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will this afternoon, inaugurate an inter-ministerial committee on degree mills,” Ben Goong, the spokesperson for the ministry, said in a notice to journalists.
Following an investigation by Daily Nigerian, exposing how its reporter purchased a certificate from a Benin Republic university, Mr Mamman berated Nigerians with fake certificates as criminals, vowing to flush them out of the system.
The federal government has suspended the accreditation of certificates from two francophone universities after the investigation exposing certificates purchased from Benin Republic university.
Efforts to combat the fake certificates menace by the present administration come despite lingering controversies surrounding Mr Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate.
Though the Supreme Court rejected fresh evidence on Mr Tinubu’s certificate forgery scandal to affirm his electoral victory, the issue has continued to elicit reactions from Nigerians.
