Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ondo governor, has approved the sum of N1.2 billion to offset outstanding gratuities of retired workers in the state.
According to a statement by Sina Adeyeye, press officer at the office of the head of service, the payment is for the gratuities owed by the Olusegun Mimiko-led administration of 2014.
Adeyeye said the distribution of cheques to beneficiaries will be flagged off by the governor at an event to be held at the Cocoa Conference hall of the governor’s office in Alagbaka, Akure on Thursday.
“As part of efforts to settle the backlog of gratuity of state retirees, the governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved N1.2 billion to fully offset gratuity of 2014 set of retirees,” Adeyeye said.
“It would be recalled that all 2013 set of state retirees’ gratuity had been cleared last year while 2011 and a fractional part of 2012 set of the local government retirees were also cleared.
“This is apart from about N320m (monthly) benefits, totalling about N2.7b (yearly) that government has set aside for the settlement of all other categories of the pensioners’ benefits.”
