…honours sixteen individuals

The Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has on Saturday, 20th May, 2023, held its maiden Public Relations Industry Awards, at the OSBC’s Hall (Open Forum), Oke-baale, Osogbo.

The award was organized to celebrate media gurus, proprietors of industries, public relations experts, monarchs, university administrators and public servants that have positively contributed to the growth and development of the society and have made noticeable impact in their respective industries.

The awardees are:

  1. The Orangun of Oke Ila, HRM, Oba (Dr) Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarinwa, Aroyinkeye I, presented an award of excellence for being one of the most cerebral Obas in Osun and for his contribution to knowledge.
  2. The Olowu of Kuta, HRM, Oba (Dr) Abdulhamed Adekunle Makama, Tegboosun II, presented an award of excellence for being one of the symbols of Yoruba culture and monarchy.
  3. Femi Adefila, the CEO of Rave 91.7fm and WSTV, presented an award of excellence as Media entrepreneur of the year.
  4. Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, the immediate past Pro-Chancellor of Osun State University, presented an award of excellence as best Pro-Chancellor with enviable track record in University administration.
  5. Professor Labode Popoola, the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, presented an award of excellence as an icon of University administration.
  6. Dr. Victoria Adunola Samson, the Managing Director of Bovas & Company Limited, presented an award of excellence as Osun symbol of entrepreneur of the year.
  7. DCG Wale Adeniyi, the Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, presented an award of excellence for his continuous support to Osun NIPR.
  8. Rasheed Folaranmi, the Director-General of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, presented an award of excellence as innovative media manager of the year.
  9. Ismail Omipidan, the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, presented an award of excellence in recognition of his service as Chief Press Secretary.
  10. Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji, the immediate past Resident Electoral Officer of Osun State, presented an award of excellence for meritorious service as REC.

The following were also presented awards in recognition of their service as valuable members of Osun NIPR:

  1. Prince Dr Wale Oyekanmi, a former Chairman of Osun NIPR.
  2. Alhaji Adebisi Popoola, the immediate past chairman of Osun NIPR.
  3. Dr Rasheed Adebiyi, the immediate past Secretary of Osun NIPR.
  4. Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command.
  5. Toba Adaramola, the Public Relations Officer of Bowen University.
  6. Gbenga Faminu, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation.

Also at the award ceremony, the Public Relations Officer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Mr Biodun Olanrewaju delivered a lecture on the topic “Using Public Relations to Manage an Organization”, where he briefly highlighted various ways PR could be employed to manage the image of an organization, an example of which is corporate social responsibility.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Osun NIPR, Ademola Adesoji, noted that the Osun Public Relations Industry Awards would be held annually, and solicited support towards the completion of Osun NIPR’s permanent secretariat.

Recall that exactly a week ago, the state chapter held its maiden PR Challenge for students of Mass Communication in Universities situated in Osun State, where Redeemers University came out tops.
