A Federal Government agency, Projects Development Institute, PRODA, Enugu, has commenced research on Lithium ion batteries with a view to producing made in Nigeria batteries.
Director-General of PRODA, Dr. Peter Ogbobe disclosed this when he received the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Enugu State Correspondents’ Chapel who paid him a courtesy visit.
The Lithium ion battery can be used for phones, inverters, laptops, among others.
Ogbobe said the agency was researching to produce Lithium ion batteries with their own formula to reduce importation and save the country some foreign exchange.
He disclosed that Nigeria has enough deposits of granite.
The PRODA, DG, who has embarked on numerous projects since assumption of duty last year, said his vision is to reclaim the lost glory of the Institute.
“PRODA is a household name. I have a wonderful management team. It is our vision to change the narrative in PRODA.
“I want people to know that PRODA is back to life; our main mandate is research. We are trying to bring transformation into the system” he stated.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Comrade Lawrence Njoku had commended Ogbobe for embarking on numerous projects in the Institute in a short period of time.
Njoku attributed what he described as serious progress in PRODA to well focussed leadership enthroned by Ogbobe.
“There is a serious progress now in PRODA and it is because of a focussed leadership which you enthroned.
“You have come to improve productivity. There are indicators that something has started in PRODA,” he stated.
