Ogun monarch marks 20th coronation anniversary

The Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adenugba, has commenced activities aimed at celebrating his 20 years on the throne.

Oba Adenugba ascended the throne on May 8, 2004.

The Chairman of the Ebumawe 20th Coronation Anniversary Planning Committee, Dr. Femi Bakre, during a press conference at the Ebumawe’s Palace last Thursday, said various activities had been lined up to commemorate the week-long event.

He said the celebration of Oba Adenugba’s 20 years on the throne was put together to thank God for his divine direction and mercy on the royal father in the task of ruling Ago-Iwoye, and also to appreciate the people of the town, friends and well-wishers for their immeasurable support.

Dr Bakre said Oba Adenugba’s remarkable achievements on the throne were heartwarming, as his reign had brought about peaceful co-existence among the people of the town even with the presence of universities, hence, allowing development to take place.

He said, “There is a cordial relationship between the town and the two universities (Olabisi Onabanjo University and Aletheia University) that are located in the town.

“Businesses are being established in the town on regular basis because of the peaceful environment and ease of doing business which the town guaranteed.”

According to Dr Bakre, some of the businesses that are thriving in Ago-Iwoye include quarry and mining, private schools, filling station services, hotels, event and recreational centres, etc. Rela

He said there was also the establishment of government agencies in the town such as; Prison Service Farms, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps divisional offices.

Dr Bakre added that in commemoration of the anniversary, Oba Adenugba had conferred chieftaincy titles on some notable personalities in recognition and appreciation of their support to the development of the town.

They are; Asiwaju of Ago-Iwoye, Otunba Alex Onabanjo; Balogun of Ago-Iwoye, Col. Dr. Demola Onalaja; Yeye Balogun of Ago-Iwoye, Roselyn Onalaja; Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye, Chief Funke Bakre; Akogun of Ago-Iwoye, Alhaji Liadi Yusuf, and Yeye Akogun of Ago-Iwoye, Bola Olusanya.

Some of the activities lined up for the anniversary include interdenominational service, quiz and sports competitions among secondary school students, Public Lecture, anniversary party, and presentation of gifts to selected public schools.

The grand finale of the event will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at WosAm Arena, Ago-Iwoye, where a reception will be held for eminent personalities including captains of industries, senior government officials and traditional rulers.

Oba Adenugba, accompanied by some prominent indigenes of Ago-Iwoye, after the press conference, also paid homage to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for his royal blessings on his anniversary celebration.

Oba Adetona congratulated Ebumawe for attaining 20 years on the throne and commended him on his accomplishments in the last twenty years.

In a recent interview with The PUNCH, Oba Adenugba said his 20th coronation anniversary was all about thanksgiving to God. “It is an appreciation of what God has done for me,” he said.
