The Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has announced the second edition of its PR pitching competition, the Osun PR Challenge. The event is set for Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the SEAP Hall, Redeemer’s University, from 10:00 A.M. to noon.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 1st of May, 2024, the Chapter Chairman, Ademola Adesoji, explained the rationale behind the competition: “We launched the Osun PR Challenge last year to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the practical application of public relations. It’s also designed to give communication students firsthand experience in planning and pitching PR campaigns.”
Adesoji noted that last year’s event featured three universities, but this year, eight institutions are participating. These include Redeemer’s University (last year’s winner), Fountain University, Westland University, Bowen University, Adeleke University, Osun State University, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, and Kings University.
The topic for the 2024 competition is “Repositioning and Rebranding of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation to Compete with Top TV Brands.” Participants will be evaluated on presentation, creativity, analytical skills, and the overall appropriateness of their proposed plans.
Adesoji added that participants would be organized into teams, simulating PR firms, and provided with a brief to develop strategic plans for the topic.
The panelists for the event are:
– Mr. Olutayo Irantiola, a PR consultant
– Mrs. Jolaade Igbaroola, Director-General/Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation
– Mr. Rasheed Bolarinwa, Head of Corporate Communications at Polaris Bank
– Mrs. Tolulope Olorundero, Founder of Women in Public Relations
The event’s Chairman is Hon. Mayowa Oloso, the Chairman of the OSBC Board.
The Osun PR Challenge aims to provide a platform for young professionals to demonstrate their skills and connect with industry leaders. The competition is open to students and aims to foster a new generation of talented public relations practitioners.
