The management team of controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Adunni Olawunmi Okikiola known by friends and fans as Portable, has claimed that contrary to the news making around the Nigerian digital space, the singer was not arrested by police personnel but accepted the invitation sent to him by the force.
Earlier in the week, the singer had been in the news for allegedly assaulting some police officers who he claimed visited his bar in Ogun State to arrest him upon the request of an internet fraud star ‘Yahoo Boy’.
The Zazoo Zeh singer made this known via a Live Instagram feed while the policemen were present at his bar on Tuesday. This situation sparked a discourse online, with tweeps airing their opinion about the incident.
However, it was learnt that on Friday, Portable was detained at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The singer was produced by his father, who stood in for him as a surety in a case of alleged assault on his former Disc Jockey, simply identified as DJ Chicken.
His arrest came after the Police had given him a 72-hour ultimatum to report himself to the nearest station or be apprehended.
Moreso, the Force Public Relations Officer of the police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via his Twitter account explained that the singer faces at least a 6-count charge offence and would have his day in court to clear his name.
Adejobi said, “Portable has more than 6 count charges to attend to, apart from resisting arrest and injuring a policeman. He will be charged to court for beating up a guy in Otta, who fired a petition to CP Ogun.”
While reacting to the statement via the controversial singer’s verified Instagram page, his management claimed that the singer was not arrested but adhered to the invitation of the police.
The statement read in part, “Remain calm as everything is under control. We writing this for those reaching out to us. Portable wasn’t arrested, he went to the police station himself to honour the invitation of the police.
“Police is our friend. We trust and believe the force will carry out their investigation and everything will be done appropriately. We are positive that all will go well as he is with the CP and the issue has been attended to. Management.”
