16-year-old boy kills stepmother in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy, Nuhu Haruna, from Dutsinma Local Government Area for allegedly killing his stepmother, along with other suspects involved in kidnapping and homicide cases across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, who paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters on Wednesday, revealed that Haruna was apprehended following a violent altercation with his stepmother, Rabi Haruna, 40, which tragically resulted in her death.

“On October 21, 2024, at about 1:00 p.m., the command arrested one Nuhu Haruna, male, aged 16, of Fenza village, Dutsinma LGA, over a case of culpable homicide.

“The suspect reportedly struck his stepmother with a stick on her stomach during a misunderstanding, leading to her untimely death,” ASP Sadiq disclosed.

In another development, the police also detained one Abubakar Nasiru, also known as Haro, from Daura LG, on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

Sadiq noted that Nasiru, previously convicted of rape, was implicated in a kidnapping incident during an ongoing investigation.

“Nasiru conspired with others now at large in 2023, stormed Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA, and kidnapped three individuals.

“A ransom of N13 million was paid for their release, with Nasiru admitting to receiving N2 million as his share,” Sadiq explained.

The police have intensified efforts to apprehend his accomplices, who are currently on the run.

In a related operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit captured Ibrahim Isah of Yana village, Charanchi LG, for allegedly contacting the father of a missing man, Bello Sani, and demanding N1 million as ransom for his release. Acting on a report, police traced and arrested the suspect, ASP Sadiq confirmed.

Further, in collaboration with the Gombe State Police Command, Katsina police apprehended 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi of Gidan Daudu village, Kankara LGA, who is accused of conspiring with three accomplices to kidnap his uncle, a local ward head.

After receiving N8 million and six bags of fertilizer as ransom, the gang allegedly killed the victim.

Sadiq disclosed that Sanusi fled to Lagos, Taraba, and eventually Gombe, where he engaged in more criminal activities until his arrest.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to capture his accomplices.

“The command affirmed its commitment to pursue all fleeing suspects to ensure justice is served,” he added.
