NAYEA suspends commander over alleged involvement in escape of suspected motorcycle thieves

The Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) has suspended its State Commander, Idris Isa Daniya, for three months without pay due to his alleged involvement in the recent escape of two suspected motorcycle thieves from custody in Lafia metropolis.

The suspension, which is effective immediately, was communicated through a letter signed by the Agency’s Administration Officer, Abdullahi Yahaya Mohammed, on behalf of the General Manager.

The letter, dated July 24, 2024 and made available to newsmen, states that Daniya is to hand over the agency’s affairs and the keys to his office to the Admin Department.

The General Manager of NAYEA, Mr. Abdullahi Bala, also has appointed Mohammed Hamidu Lamino as the Acting State Commander for the duration of the suspension.

Recall that the incident in question occurred weeks ago when operatives of NAYEA, formerly known as Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), arrested two suspects for stealing motorcycles at the premises of a popular eatery in Lafia, Lavista.

However, the suspects escaped from custody a few hours after their arrest.

It was reported that in a swift follow-up operation on Monday, July 22, the agency announced the rearrest of one of the escaped suspects, Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed.

Mohammed later confessed to bribing a personnel through a family member with N50,000 to facilitate their escape.
