Police arrest airport taxi passenger for attempted car snatching

The Lagos State Police Command has made two notable arrests in separate incidents, showcasing the bravery of a taxi driver and the vigilance of police officers.

A 35-year-old passenger was arrested for attempting to snatch an airport taxi from its driver.

According to the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect stopped the taxi driver at 1:20 a.m. on June 11 and requested to be taken to the Shrine in Agidigbi, Alausa area of Ikeja.

However, as they were driving on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, by 7UP Alausa Ikeja, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and attempted to snatch the Toyota Camry car.

The driver was injured in the process, sustaining a deep knife cut on his hand while struggling with the suspect.

He raised an alarm, and some good Samaritans intervened, causing the suspect to flee.

He was later arrested after a pursuit.In another incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested for impersonating a military personnel.

The fake soldier was apprehended on Friday at about 5:45 p.m. by operatives from Ilemba Hausa Division while on patrol at Jinadu Street, Ajangbadi.

The suspect was found riding an unregistered black motorcycle dressed in complete army camouflage uniform and was arrested after abandoning his vehicle and fleeing when he saw the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is not a soldier and the uniform belongs to his friend serving in Maiduguri.
