Mother of Two Found Dead After Suspected Suicide Due to Marital Issues

Margaret Atayi, a mother of two, was found dead late Monday after disappearing from her parents’ home in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, last Thursday night. It is alleged that she took her own life following a failed marriage.

Her father, Mr. Patrick Atayi, confirmed the cause of death, stating that she had been suffering from depression due to mistreatment by her husband.

“Margaret, a mother of two, had been depressed for some time because of mistreatment by her husband. She left home at 3 am on Friday without anyone’s knowledge. Her body was discovered late Monday, and all evidence points to suicide,” he said.

When contacted, Margaret’s mother, Mrs. Helen Atayi, confirmed her daughter’s depressed state and the mistreatment by her husband, saying, “Yes.”

Mrs. Atayi previously informed our correspondent that Margaret had left their home at City College on Abacha Road, Nasarawa State, at 3 am on Thursday without notifying the family.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, directed our correspondent to the Nasarawa State Police Command. However, the PPRO for Nasarawa State Police Command, Ramhan Nansel, was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.
