In Akure, a 39-year-old fruit trader named Babalola Dolapo has confessed to the murder of his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin. Dolapo disclosed to reporters after his arrest by police detectives in Ondo State that he killed Oyelakin, stole his motorcycle, and disposed of his body in a pit along Oke-Igbo Road in Oke-Igbo/Ile-Oluji Local Government Area.

Dolapo admitted to selling the stolen motorcycle for N130,000 after committing the crime with an accomplice named Sikiru Mutiu, who is currently evading capture. He expressed remorse, attributing the heinous act to the influence of evil forces.

Dolapo recounted how he and his partner confronted Oyelakin, leading to a struggle during which he fatally struck him with a stone.

The State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, led detectives and medical personnel to retrieve the victim’s decomposing body from the pit in the bush. Oladipo condemned the negligence of farm owners in the vicinity for failing to report the foul odor emanating from the area.

Oladipo emphasized the need for vigilance among motorcycle riders and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

He reiterated the ongoing investigation to apprehend all individuals involved in the crime, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.

Additionally, he announced an awareness campaign to educate motorcycle riders on the risks of transporting passengers to isolated locations.
