Man gets seven years imprisonment for sexually abusing three boys in Kano

A Kano high court has sentenced Abdullahi Lawan, a 27-year-old man, to seven years imprisonment for sexually abusing three boys in the state.

Aisha Mahmoud, the trial judge, on Friday, sentenced Abdullahi to seven years imprisonment on each of the three counts filed against him.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano command, filed the charges against Lawan.

The judge held that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and ruled that the seven-year jail term would be served concurrently without an option of fine.

The judge also ordered that the defendant should pay a fine of N1 million, warning that failure to pay means an additional two-year imprisonment for the convict.

THE CASE

Abdullahi Babale, the prosecutor and zonal command of Kano NAPTIP, said the case was reported to the agency on September 25 by the Kano command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Babale told the court that the defendant committed the offence in August at his shop situated in the Rangaza Damagari area of Kano.

“The convict procured a gift for the victims between the ages of 10- and 13-year-old boys at his shop when they went to rent a small truck,” NAN quoted the prosecutor as saying.

“In the process, he gave them N300, groundnuts, and sexually exploited them.”
