Kano donates N100m to Jigawa tanker explosion victims

The Kano State Government has donated N100 million to support victims of the recent fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced the donation during a condolence visit to his Jigawa counterpart, Umar Namadi, at the Government House in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Thursday.

No fewer than 153 victims were buried on Wednesday, while many others were rushed to hospitals for medical treatment after sustaining various degrees of injuries in the tragic incident.

In a statement by Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, the governor emphasised that the donation was intended to provide relief to the families of those who lost their lives and to support the treatment of the injured.

“The donation is meant to support the families of those who lost their loved ones as well as to assist those receiving medical treatment in hospitals,” the statement read.

On Wednesday, Yusuf extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and those recovering from injuries, offering prayers for the Almighty to prevent future tragedies of this nature.

In response, the Jigawa governor expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the people of the state, thanking the Kano government for its generous support during such a difficult time.

He assured that the funds would be judiciously used to assist the victims and their families.

During a sympathy visit to the traders at the Kantin Kwari Textile Market, Yusuf also donated N100 million to victims of a fire disaster that engulfed 29 shops in the market.
