Kano declares Monday public holiday for new Islamic year

The Kano State Government has declared Monday a public holiday in commemoration of the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year 1446 AH.

This is contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye on Friday.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf Abba urged citizens to use the holiday to reflect on the past year and engage in beneficial activities.

He enjoined the people of the state to utilize the holiday to reflect on the previous year and commit themselves in mutually beneficial activities that will bring succor to them in these difficult and trying times.

“The state government on its part will continue to implement and initiate policies and programmes that will empower citizens to be self-dependent,” the statement said.

Abba also called on the Muslim community to intensify prayers for continuous peace and progress in the state and the country at large.

He also highlighted the importance of collective effort and prayer in achieving the state’s goals.

He expressed optimism that with the prayers and support of the people, his administration will turn around the fortunes of the state and return it to be one of the most economically prosperous among its peers in the country.
