Gunmen Kill Ondo Monarch In Failed Abduction Attempt

he Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo community, in what authorities described as a failed abduction attempt in Akure North Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, told journalists on Thursday that the command received a distress call at about 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday from a community leader reporting an attack on the monarch’s palace.
According to him, about six armed men stormed the royal residence and forcefully took the traditional ruler from his compound.
“The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene,” Jimoh said.
He added that the Divisional Police Officer, alongside tactical teams, immediately mobilised officers and local security groups, including Amotekun Corps, hunters and Atuluse vigilantes, to comb nearby bushes in search of the attackers.
“Surveillance has been intensified across the area while efforts continue to track and apprehend the suspects,” the police spokesman stated.
“The Command assures residents that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” he added.
However, residents of Agamo community narrated that the attack appeared to have begun as an abduction attempt that later turned deadly.
The wife (Olori) of the slain monarch reportedly narrowly escaped death when gunmen invaded the palace and began shooting sporadically.
The incident has heightened tension in Akure North and surrounding communities, amid growing security concerns in Ondo State where kidnappings, attacks on farmers and assaults on rural settlements have reportedly increased in recent months.
