10 feared killed as explosions rock Zamfara

No fewer than 10 people were feared killed as implosive devices, suspected to be bombs, exploded along Magami-Dansadau road, causing panic in the area.

An eyewitness who was en route to the area, Mallam Yunusa, said the explosion rocked three places along the road, involving a trailer loaded with grains.

According to him, they were travelling to Dansadau from Magami town when they were stopped by panicking travellers between Maikogo and Mai Aya-aya village, saying the explosion occurred a few minutes after.

He further explained that the explosion went off three times, one after the other, and was believed to have been planted by armed bandits in the area.

“As we were standing along the road, it was uneasy. All of us were panicked, confused. The explosion rocked a trailer loaded with grains, where four people in the vehicle died, and a woman who dropped from another vehicle was smashed to death while trying to escape from the scene.

“Later, we saw vehicles of security personnel entering the area and bush around searching and chasing bandits in the area,” he further narrated.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara state Police command has confirmed the incident, saying security was on red alert.

According to the police public relations officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, operatives are working to provide the details of the incident later.
