Maryam Elisha made Zuru’s first queen

Renowned fashion entrepreneur and Chief Executive of Rikaoto By Me, Maryam Elisha, has made history following her appointment as the first Queen of Zuru in Kebbi State.

The Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad Sarkin Rafin Zuru, bestowed the traditional title, Sarauniyar Matan Rafin Zuru, on her, in recognition of her sterling contributions to the fashion industry. The grand event was graced by dignitaries and well-wishers.

Elisha who is known for her innovative designs and styling of prominent figures, including beauty queen Chidinma Adetshina, has achieved remarkable success in the fashion industry.

This significant achievement adds another feather to Elisha’s cap, following the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from Prowess University in the United States earlier this year.

Until her emergence, the title was exclusively given to men in Zuru. Elisha’s appointment marked a significant shift in societal norms and a growing recognition of female leadership in the community. “This is a big deal to me, particularly because such a title is not given to women in my area, but today my people are bending rules to accommodate and celebrate female excellence and inclusivity in community and nation-building. I have always been a well-dressed lady and I respect cultural ethics.

“The title will further permit me to wear royal attire, especially during public outings or traditional festivals. And since I am a fashion designer, I can be creative about it to further beautify my culture,” Elisha gushed.

As Queen, Elisha will focus on community development, including advocating for education, healthcare, and infrastructure. She will also serve as a custodian of culture and heritage, a mediator in conflicts, and a bridge between the community and the government.
