A 15-year-old boy, Saidu Ubu, has died in a violent clash between groups of miscreants from the Gurgudu area of Maitumbi and Kwari-Berger in Minna, Niger State.
It was gathered that Ubu, a resident of Gurgudu, was killed on Saturday at approximately 11:30 pm during the fight.
Eyewitnesses said the conflict began as a confrontation between two rival groups and quickly escalated into a violent skirmish, causing panic among residents in the area.
A police patrol team from Maitumbi Division, upon receiving a distress call, was said to have promptly moved to the scene of the incident.
However, the miscreants fled upon sighting the police, leaving behind the injured victim.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, however, was unfortunately pronounced dead by the medical personnel.
His death has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing concerns about the rising activities of hoodlums in the area.
Reacting, the Niger State Police Command launched a follow-up sting operation in the area, resulting in the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected to the incident.
The arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
The police have assured the public that thorough investigations will be conducted to unravel the cause of the clash and bring all those responsible to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police by providing any useful information that could assist in the investigation.
