15 Suspects In Police Net For Setting Bauchi School On Fire

Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested about 15 suspected thugs in connection with the burning of a block of primary school in Kandahar, at the heart of Bauchi metropolis.

LEADERSHIP reports that the thugs allegedly burnt down the school following a clash with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in the area. The office building of the Civilian Joint Task Force, which is located close to the school, was also burnt.

Spokesperson of Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Bauchi on Sunday.

He said during the prior unrest, members of the Civilian JTF confronted the attackers, resulting in one of the assailants, identified as Saidu Musa, 22, sustaining a gunshot wound on his chest from a locally-made firearm.

Wakil said the Musa was taken to Bauchi Specialists Hospital for medical treatment.

He urged the residents of Bauchi State to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any concerns to the relevant authorities.

The PPRO also said the State’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has “directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to undertake a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding this dastardly act.”
