Two yet-to-be-identified persons were killed in multiple accidents that occurred in some parts of the Lagos and Ogun states on Monday.
This is just as six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accidents that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Third Mainland Bridge and Fadeyi areas of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered from a statement by the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, on Monday, that a tragic collision involving a J5 Ford bus with number plate FKJ 724 YC and a Mercedes truck at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge claimed one life and left four others with injuries.
He added that four other persons sustained injuries in the crash.
Taofiq said, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has confirmed a tragic collision involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge. The accident, which occurred earlier today, claimed one life and left a total of five individuals affected.
“LASTMA officials, under the leadership of the General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, promptly arrived at the scene and spearheaded the rescue operations. Tragically, one individual, trapped inside the J5 Ford bus laden with pepper and other perishable goods, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
“Preliminary findings suggest that the J5 Ford bus experienced brake failure while travelling at high speed, resulting in a collision with the Mercedes truck.”
In Ogun, one Rauf Amzat was killed after his Mercedes Benz truck rammed into a truck in front of the Advanced International Merchant Ltd along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the fatal motor accident occurred on December 10, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am.
The Ogun State Police Command stated that the collision involved a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number EPE224XA, driven by Tosin Adekunle and a CNHTC truck with registration number GGE149XE, the driver of which is yet to be identified.
The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, said both vehicles were travelling from Lagos to Ibadan when the truck swerved from the middle lane to the slow lane, causing the Mercedes Benz truck to lose control and crash into the rear of the truck.
“Tragically, one of the occupants in the Mercedes Benz truck, Rauf Amzat, aged 40, from Ondo Town, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed by family members for burial rites, in accordance with Muslim customs,” she said.
In another Lagos accident, two yet-to-be-identified adult males escaped death on Sunday after a 40ft container truck crashed into two vehicles in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.
The articulated truck was said to have suffered mechanical failure when its tractor tyre pulled off, resulting in a crash into the two other affected vehicles.
The vehicles included a Toyota Corolla with number plate KTU 691 JX and a Mazda commercial bus, with number plate AAA 271 XI.
