Streaming giant Netflix has refuted rumors suggesting it plans to exit Nigeria, following widespread reports that sparked concern within the country’s entertainment industry.

The speculation gained momentum after a viral statement by prominent Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan. In the video, Afolayan alleged that Netflix had canceled several commissioned projects, raising doubts about its long-term commitment to Nollywood. He expressed disappointment, noting that despite Nollywood’s global acclaim, Netflix seemed dissatisfied with local returns.

In response, Netflix addressed the rumors through an email sent by its public relations agency, Hill & Knowlton Strategies. Edafe Onoriode, Group Account Director, emphasized Netflix’s dedication to Nigeria’s creative industry, dismissing claims of an exit.

“We are not leaving Nigeria. We remain committed to investing in Nigerian stories that captivate and entertain our members,” the Netflix spokesperson affirmed.

Onoriode also highlighted Netflix’s ongoing efforts to unlock Nollywood’s vast potential, reassuring stakeholders of the company’s continued support for the local film industry.
