Veteran Nigerian artist Paul Okoye, often known as Rudeboy and one-half of the now-defunct music band Psquare, has caused a heated debate online with his latest advice for Nigerians.
In a post on his Instagram account, the artist underlined the necessity of homeownership in achieving financial independence.
Rudeboy encouraged his followers to choose house ownership over renting, emphasizing that landlord fear may lead to disrespect and a sense of being trapped.
He wrote: “See ehh… No matter what you do in life, make sure you work so hard to avoid rent. Because that’s a lifetime freedom. Get yours. It doesn’t matter where or the location. The fear of landlords is the beginning of disrespect and see finish. Get yours. That will be the beginning of your financial freedom.”
The singer’s counsel comes after a public battle with his twin brother, Peter Okoye.
The tweet rapidly gained traction, with many of his followers flocking to social media to offer their thoughts. Some completely agreed with the message, while others questioned the feasibility of purchasing a property, especially given the present economic situation.
