The Osun State Police Command on Monday dragged three private securities personnel to Magistrates’ Court, Osogbo for allegedly forcing two men to eat raw cashew nut.
The three defendants; Oyeboade Mathew (49yrs), Daramola Sunday (44yrs) and Olalekan Adeoye (49yrs) were arraigned on four counts hinged on conspiracy, breach of peace, attempted murder and assault of two men namely; Animasahun Hammed and Peter Godwin.
According to the charge, the police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said the trio on 27th of February 2021 at about 5:55 PM, Hallelujah Estate Area, Osogbo, conspired to kill one Animasahun Hammed and Peter Godwin by beating and forcing them to eat raw cashew nuts which they know is poisonous to their body.
He added that they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by calling themselves security personnel under the Nigeria Legion, to beat and tie the two victims who were in thier custody without a preliminary investigation.
Inspector Olusegun notes that the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 320, 365 and 240 of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II. Laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.
However, the three pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against them.
The Counsel for the three defendants made an oral bail application for his client on the most liberal term assuring the magistrate to provide reliable sureties.
The presiding magistrate, Adijat Oloyade admitted the three defendants to bail with the sum of N500,000 with one surety each.
She, therefore, adjourned the case to April, 5th 2021, for definite hearing.
