Shuaibu Usman, acting Eje of Ankpa in Ankpa local government area of Kogi state, has been kidnapped.
Usman was reportedly abducted while entering a mosque to observe prayers around 5:30am on Friday.
Confirming the incident, Ayuba Ede, the state commissioner of police, said the suspected kidnappers laid an ambush at the mosque before the abduction.
Ede said they are yet to make any contact with the family, but added that the police have cordoned off all entry and exit points in the state, with a view to rescuing the traditional ruler.
Speaking on the incident, Kingsley Fanwo, the state commissioner for information, said efforts are on to ensure that the traditional ruler is rescued safely.
“The state government is working with security agencies to ensure his release,” Fanwo said.
“The Kogi state government has also put machinery in motion to ensure even more stringent security network during this yuletide.
“The people of Ankpa should remain calm as government is on top of the situation. We remain committed to security of lives and property.”
