As the Burial rites for Pa Ayo Fasanmi began today with a commendation service held at All Saints Cathedral, Osogbo, Senator Adelere Oriolowo has described the late Afenifere leader as a ‘pious elder Statesman’ who lived a life worthy of emulation until his last breath.
The Senator in a statement through his Media Aide, Oluniyi Isamotu said Baba Ayo Fasanmi was selfless to fault and made service to humanity his hobby
“As one of the valiant foot soldiers of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Baba Fasanmi was among those who fought for Nigeria’s independence.
He was an unrepentant Awoist and a dyed-in-the-wool progressive.
He was a champion of good governance, a viable democracy, including a just society, all these he pursued till his last breath.
Baba was selfless to fault and service to humanity was second nature for him”, the Senator said.
The Senator further described the Afenifere leader as someone ‘who worked tirelessly for the progress of the Yoruba race and the black race in general’
As the process to commit Pa Ayo Fasanmi to mother earth began today, Senator Oriolowo said, his wealth of experience, uncommon wisdom and his passion and thirst for a new Nigeria will be sorely missed.
He thereafter commiserate with his family, the government of Osun, the leadership of Afenifere, the Yoruba race and the entire black nation on the glorious exit of a pious elder statesman.
