New Chief of Staff: Echoes of Hard Times by Sola Isola

Anybody that is a lover of literature or perhaps sat for the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination as at the time i sat for mine will be familiar with the novel “Echoes of Hard Time”.

One will wonder if hard times truly echo but to be able to understand that you have to be aware that echo is an effect, a sound effect and so anything that has an effect will definitely echo, please note that that is not the figurative meaning of that expression.

Hard time is here, am sure that by now the whole world has heard or seen its echo, it’s truly loud and clear.

It came with COVID-19 like a thief in the night, its shaking the entire world like a liquid suspension that is about to be used but then it keeps pouring away each time an attempt is made to pour it into a spoon.

COVID-19 is echoing my people, i hope you are not hearing it. The echo took away Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari- Captain of our Hard Times.

Oh Abba Kyari, a man that nobody including his own children could speak up to defend when he was alive, they said the man doesnt like to be defended, thats sounds to me like blasphemy but who will disprove is, the man is dead.

That man Abba Kyari was said to be the head of the cabal in Aso Rock, i dont think anybody is aware of the name of the members of the said cabal, we just keep mouthing cabal like a nursery school pupil preparing for End of the year party without a date in view.

Shortly after Abba died, the game continued in the villa, the leader of the cabal is dead, we dont know the new head of the cabal, we dont know who the next Chief of staff to the Captain will be. We kept on waiting, like a mother waiting for her baby to be born, she is not even sure of the the day the baby will come despite having an expected day of delivery has given by the doctor.

Mallam Adamu Adamu, the current Minister of Education was rumoured to have been highly favoured be replace Abba, the rumour was so huge that it was even reported by some news website that i think needs to be checked, all the while captain and his media team remained silent.

Then one a day no one expected news came out that Professor Agboola Gambari will replace Abba, everyone was shocked, nobody saw it coming. How can this thing be? Just like the way it was said in the bible.

So questions started rolling out, even though Captain and his team has not confirmed it. Who is Gambari? Where is he from? How old is he? The greatest though is what does he have to offer?

A day later, Captain confirm the new signing and the whole team members welcomed him.

When a player is signed, expectations are always high on the part of the fans, Gambari has now resumed duty, will he try to be like Abba? Can he be like Abba? Will he be better than Abba?

Hard times has echoed again, this time around what did it say…

“Oh Nigeria, i have given you a new Chief of Staff”
