Youths should learn vocational courses in addition to their academic pursuits in order to add some skills to their knowledge for proficiency in the use of brain and brawn. This was stated by the Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Works and Transport, Engr Olatoke Hussein Olaniyan, during the Carnival of Iragbiji Popo youths Forum.
The Special Adviser who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Ojulari waheed, while delivering his speech tagged “Quality Education:A Panacea For Development”.
He mentioned that, “Quality Education is needed or required to sharpen such skills in order to address the crisis of lack of development of our time. There are various forms of intelligence which God endowed man with. These intelligences must be identified, recognised, empowered and remunerated without discrimination”.
“A functioning society must have qualified individuals in such professiobs such as Medicine, Law, Accountancy, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Teaching, Architecture, Public administration and other notable fields; but must also have skilled manpower in trades such as Plumbing, Woodwork, Electrical/Mechanical installation, Photography, Catering Services, Food Science and Nutrition, Physiotherapy and such other vocational skills”.
He advised that all of these skills must be adequately remunerated without discrimination.
Engr Olaniyan stated that it is not helpful for anyone to attend school and undergo any process of education just to acquire academic certificate alone. He informed the youths to embrace quality education as such would give them sound mind in sound body and ensure gainful engagement and creation of wealth.
The Special Adviser also said the government of the State of Osun is focusing on investing more in entrepreneurship in order to get the youths who are entrepreneurs to be productive.
The Aragbiji of Iragbiji land, Oba AbdulRasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, used the occasion to appeal to Osun State Government to see to the rehabilitation of numerous bad roads in the town, and applauded the youths for deeming it fit to organize such a historical event.
An arch constructed by Popo Youths Forum at the entrance of Popo Street was later commissioned by the Aragbiji.
