The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bolaji Asiwaju Tinubu has said that there is no need for an airport in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

Tinubu stated this at the seventh convocation ceremony of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUA).

Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and Professor Anthony Olusegun Adegbulugbe, were conferred with honorary degrees at the event.

Tinubu told the event host, Chief Afe Babalola, Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and other dignitaries that the State does not need an airport.

There have been ongoing plan to build an airport in Ado-Ekiti a plan that the state has been working on for years leading to the inauguration of an eight-man committee to oversee its construction.

The past administration failed to bring the project to fruition and Governor Fayemi has sought to continue the push.

Chief Afe Babalola is said to be the one pushing for the project as he allegedly feels a need for the airport because of his university.

But speaking at the convocation ceremony, Tinubu told the audience that there is clearly no need for an airport in Ado-Ekiti.

The former Lagos Governor added that building one in the city would amount to a waste of the state’s scarce resources.

Tinubu pointed out that the functional airport in Akure, the capital of Ondo State will fulfill the air transport needs of residents of Ekiti state, as well as visitors to the state.

According to Tinubu, what the Ekiti State should do is to push for the fixing of the Akure-Ado-Ekiti Road because an airport in Akure will effectively serve both states.

  1. I actually agree with Asiwaju BAT; Ekiti does not need an airport. Total waste of money. Wise talk sir.

  2. Tinubu may not be corruption-free but you have to respect his political and economic sagacity. I couldn’t agree more with him.

  3. It’s true the state doesn’t need air port just fixed the Akure to Ado road make use of Akure airport bring investors from China and others country encourage mechanized farming discouraged civil service jobs ,they have over bloated civil servants ,salaries has gulped a lot with resultant effect on capital development don’t concentrate projects in one center scatter its, encourage teak trees planting instead of cocoa effect of wild fire on it is minimal resuscitate textile industry back to another industry instead Basically Ekiti doesn’t need airport at this present situation

  4. I love my state. I desire her growth but we must be true to ourselves and be factual. Asiwaju has said the right thing and it makes all sense. I applaud the good works of my Governor, JKF but an airport for the state now, is a No No. God bless Ekiti and Nigeria.

  5. Instead, JKF, should put that money into another investment. Make Ekiti a national and perhaps a global hub for something. Develop our hospitals and THs, our educational institutions, Agriculture, Infrastructure and Industries. With a pliable road network within and around the state, our products will fly, investment will come and so on. Dubai is the most known Emirate in the UAE but Air Peace operates at a nearby State. How are customers in Dubai serviced? They arrive at Sharjah and an executive bus picks them and take them on a jolly good ride to Dubai within an hour. This is a working strategy. Let the interconnecting road be fixed, have a sort of State owned investment and commitment in Akure airport and Ekiti will be fine.

  6. Ekiti is planning to build a multi billionaire project but forgot to build the major road that link Ado to Ikere and Akure together. Ikere to Akure is one of the deadliest road where kidnappers kidnapp our citizens on a daily bases. Let someone call fayemi to order now, not all of us can afford to board a flight but we can all board a bus.
